On July 15th and only for 2021, the IRS started paying half the total Child Tax Credit amount in advance monthly payments, to eligible families with children ages 17 or younger. You will claim the other half when you file your 2021 income tax return.
But be careful because cybercriminals have created a maze of associated websites all aiming to trick people into entering their personal information by pretending to be associated with the child tax credit payments. Do not access any Child Tax Credit related pages ending in “.com” or “.net”, all government agencies pages end in “.gov”
If you filed tax returns for 2019 or 2020, or if you signed up to receive a stimulus check from the Internal Revenue Service, you will get this tax relief automatically, you don’t need to sign up or take any other action.
